Our Suppliers
Greenhouse Plastics
For over 20 years, Vegtech has partnered with Ginegar to provide the right cover for your crops. This vast experience together with Ginegar’s knowledge and expertise has ensured that our clients receive products of only the highest quality, and in many cases, developed specially for the South African market.
Ginegar is the first agri-film producer to use revolutionary five-layer technology with selected additives. This five-layer technology enables them to insert the additives into the films far more accurately, thus improving their performance and lifespan.
Our range includes the innovative Sun Selector™ and Mulch More™ products. These photo-selective films are the result of high-level agronomic research and 30 years of manufacturing experience to bring the perfect combination of strength, versatility, light transmission and cost-efficiency to almost any farming application.
Specialized Nets
Vegtech offers and stocks a wide range of specialised nets for the climatic and biological control of crops.
Anti-insect netsblock the entry of pests and insects into the crop environment and significantly reduce the use of pesticides. These nets are commonly used to cover net-houses, or to close vents in greenhouses or tunnels. Various types are available, from 17-mesh to 80-mesh, providing protection against fruit fly, aphids, thrips and more.
Anti-hail nets are used to provide protection against hail in areas where it is prevalent. There is a wide range of anti-hail nets that provide additional benefits such as shading and wind protection, and can moderate the micro-climate according to the crop requirements.
Shade nets are available in a wide range of shading factors, and colours. These nets improve the climatic environment in which plants grow by reducing temperatures, reducing evaporation, maintaining humidity and enhancing photosynthesis. Light-spectrum management nets are also available that enable growers to control light dispersion, control and bring forward flowering dates and ripening times, accelerate growth rate, and influence growing properties of plants such as leaf and fruit size and colour, branch and stem length, number of nodes, plant weight and size. This enables growers to adapt yields to market preferences, with significant economic advantages.
Groundcover fabrics offer exceptional weed control, eliminating the need for herbicidal or insecticidal sprays. They are UV stabilized for long term exposure to the sun and are available in a selection of weights, colours, widths and lengths. As well as limiting the growth of weeds, groundcovers help maintain even soil temperatures. Their woven structure allows water to pass through, as well as providing an aerated and healthy environment for plants to thrive.
Growing Media
A high quality growing medium is essential to ensure a healthy crop and the best yield. Vegtech has partnered with two world leaders to supply professional growing media to growers throughout Southern Africa, and to complement our turnkey projects, where only the best will do.
Riococo Coir
Riococo is one of the world’s largest suppliers of coir growing media. Since the company’s inception, they have been manufacturing world-class coir products from their facilities in Sri Lanka.
Their use of the highest quality raw materials, which were produced by nature and combined with state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, enables them to produce the highest quality coir fiber products.
Riococo coir has excellent porosity and water holding capacity, which can be changed according to crop requirements by blending different grades of coir. It has ideal chemical characteristics for plant production. It can be reused for several crop cycles and can be easily disposed of without any environmental concerns.
Coir is a natural, and renewable resource produced from mature coconut husks. Coir fiber is a coarse material obtained from the husk surrounding the coconut seed.
Riococo coir substrate products originate from Kurunegala in the heart of Sri Lanka’s coconut triangle. Here the coconut palms flourish in the region’s rich soil and humid tropical climate.
Riococo coir was introduced in 2004 after many years of extensive testing, research and development combined with customer feedback. Carefully selected raw materials are blended together to produce high quality coir substrates in different formats. Riococo owns eight production facilities in Sri Lanka. These operations have the capacity to produce 4 million greenhouse grow bags per year along with other growing medium products.
Riococo coir is lightweight and can be compressed into a variety of shapes. It decomposes slowly due to its high lignin content. It is uniform and consistent because of the production process that uses various sieving systems and mixes different particle grades.
Riococo coir is widely available and doesn’t create any environmental problems during the production process like other inorganic growing media. Riococo is the first North American-based company to obtain the OMRI listing for coconut fiber.
Kekkilä Peat
Kekkilä Professional develops and produces high-quality growing solutions for professional growers. We are experts in high-quality substrates and fertilisers developed for optimal growth. Our products yield optimal, uniform results in over 70 countries worldwide.
First-rate raw materials are the heart of all Kekkilä Professional products. Our substrates are made of carefully selected, first-class sphagnum peat harvested from our own bogs. We are one of the best producers of professional substrates and offer a wide selection of products for all types of plants and growing conditions.
We know what makes plants grow best. You know your business. That’s why we develop our products in cooperation with our customers. Together we grow stronger.
Peat
The main raw material of Kekkilä Professional substrates is first-rate White or Brown Sphagnum peat.
The basic ingredient in the Kekkilä substrates is either White or Brown Sphagnum peat. The peat comes from our own bogs and thanks to the Kekkilä production methods, contains naturally occurring biological active agents.
Peat consists of 95 % organic material. It is a mixture of decomposed plant material that has accumulated in a water-saturated environment without oxygen. Sphagnum peat therefore, mainly contains decomposed Sphagnum moss.
As a substrate constituent peat is superior to any other material when it comes to performance. Because of its ability to hold water and nutrients, it saves fertilisers and water. Due to its special structure it provides roots with air. Peat is naturally free of human and plant pathogens and contains beneficial microbes which help to prevent fungal diseases. The naturally occurring humic acids stimulate root growth. As it is an organic material it is also compostable and does not produce unwanted waste. Moreover, it is widely available in the Nordic environment.
Growing Systems
Vegtech offers a range of growing throughs as well as trellising systems for use in greenhouses, shade houses and tunnels. These systems are specifically designed to optimize growing conditions and increase yields.
